Santiago de Cuba Province |
Former capital of Cuba, Santiago is said to be Cuba's most Caribbean city. With a strong revolutionary history, you'll discover the Moncada barracks, attacked by Fidel's revolutionaries in 1953, now converted into a school. Many Cubans make a pilgrimage to the El Cobre sanctuary to ask favors from Cuba's patron saint La Virgen/Caridad del Cobre. The Baconao Biosphere Reserve, Gran Piedra, exceptional diving, and beaches south of the city make Santiago an excellent choice for soaking up Cuban culture.
