Opened in 1958, the Hotel Riviera was mobster Meyer Lansky's pride and joy. It was the ritziest hotel and casino in Cuba and the first to have air conditioning. The Gold Leaf Casino and the Copa nightclub was Lansky's ticket to print money. However, Castro and his revolutionaries arrived in Havana on 9 January 1960 and one of his first acts was to close all casinos. In June, Lansky was kicked out of Cuba.
Located on the Malecon in Vedado, Havana, the Riviera provides accommodations with a stunning view of the ocean and Morro Castle.
